I got married today.

MT and I have been together for 8 years, and whenever we talked about getting married I only ever had one stipulation: NO WEDDING! We've both done that before, and we agreed: the two of us, a celebrant, and the bare minimum number of witnesses to make it legal - then tell everyone afterward.

Well, he decided when he arrived in the States last Saturday, that this would be the perfect time - my family was planning a mini-reunion for tomorrow so we could get married and then tell everyone at the lunch.

One mistake: he told his family before he asked me. You know, the family that lives in Australia. His parents bought tickets before we even had the license. Then one of his brothers announced he was flying in for the weekend so he could be here. So. Suddenly there are 18 people and it's no longer not-a-wedding. It rained buckets here yesterday and this morning, and I'm pretty sure it could be argued it was God laughing till he cried...

Still, we managed to keep it very laid back and the ceremony itself was under 10 minutes. I'm still reeling from the spontaneousness of it all: 7 days from proposal to ceremony. But I'm an honest woman now and I have one hell of a souvenir from my holiday! ;)
