I read cozy and historical mysteries, a bit of Paranormal/UF, and to mix it up, I read science and gardening books on occasion.
I hate crying. For any reason. I don't find it cathartic and I'm not a pretty cryer; my eyes swell shut for hours afterwards. Add to that the decade of my 20's pretty much wrung me dry of any desire for drama, and I don't really have any books that specifically fit this category.
But these two did sneak up on me and tear me up. For which I haven't yet forgiven either one of them.
The Immortal Life... I bought for the science. The humanity and injustice wrought on Mrs. Lacks and her family was just wrenching and I was unprepared for it.
Peach Pies and Alibis is a cozy/paranormal mystery with an ending I'd like to smack the author for because it too was unexpected. Completely, utterly fantastical - but tear inducing all the same.
