I read cozy and historical mysteries, a bit of Paranormal/UF, and to mix it up, I read science and gardening books on occasion.
From a purely academic, rational POV, I agree with the court's ruling.
B-b-but... it's Sherlock Holmes! As an almost-rabid-fan, I don't want anyone to mess with him; he should remain artistically unmolested.
*Sigh* - I know there are excellent examples of pastiche out there (I'm currently reading Laurie R. King's Mary Russell books and loving them). But now that anyone can do as they please without any hinderance (previously anyone using Sherlock had to pay the estate a fee), I shudder to think what will become of my personal literary hero. Maybe nothing... fingers crossed.
