Murder by Death

I read cozy and historical mysteries, a bit of Paranormal/UF, and to mix it up, I read science and gardening books on occasion.

Bargain Hunting (Finley Tanner Anderson #5)

Bargain Hunting - Rhonda Pollero

First, for shame Ms. Pollero! I realise that in a series it's necessary to repeat basic information in each book, so someone picking up in the middle of the series understands what's going on. But to copy, word for word, a whole section of one book and paste it into the next????

Seriously - in book four, Slightly Irregular (A Finley Anderson Tanner Mystery #4), there's a scene with Finley at the home of a couple squatting on a client's property. It's a well written scene, very descriptive. In the beginning of this book, she *revisits* that couple in a follow up to the case (a different visit!) and Ms. Pollero proceeds to repeat - word for word - the scene from Slightly Irregular. It was an honest to god cut and paste job. She should be embarrassed.

In spite of this, and once you got past it, the book was excellent - finally Finley and Liam make honest headway in their relationship and the plot surrounding Liam and his past is excellent, really well thought out and written. I love the approach of investigating a mystery not only from the p.i. perspective but from the legal one. Finley is smart, capable and clever as well as being humorous. Her friends don't play as big a part in this book, but they're there when needed. This book shows a maturity in both the characters and the plots that a good series has - it's evolving as it should.

I hope Ms. Pellero continues to write this series - but no more copy/paste! People notice!
