Murder by Death

I read cozy and historical mysteries, a bit of Paranormal/UF, and to mix it up, I read science and gardening books on occasion.

The Flat Book Society: September Read - 10 days to go!

Get Well Soon: History's Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them - Jennifer Wright

Only 10 more days until the start of Hallowe The Flat Book Society's September read!  Fun Fact: our read qualifies for the Deadlands square in 2018 Halloween Bingo, and by extension, the Free Square.  So, if you're interested but not a member, please feel free to join us; we're not the clique-y sort here at the Flat Book Society.

Throughout time, humans have been terrified and fascinated by the diseases history and circumstance have dropped on them. Some of their responses to those outbreaks are almost too strange to believe in hindsight. Get Well Soon delivers the gruesome, morbid details of some of the worst plagues we’ve suffered as a species, as well as stories of the heroic figures who selflessly fought to ease the suffering of their fellow man. With her signature mix of in-depth research and storytelling, and not a little dark humor, Jennifer Wright explores history’s most gripping and deadly outbreaks, and ultimately looks at the surprising ways they’ve shaped history and humanity for almost as long as anyone can remember.

On a side note:  I'll be heading off in less than 48 hours to be locked into a long metal tube with several hundred strangers and bad food, and hurled halfway around the planet, only to have the process repeated to be hurled across a largish continent.  I'm not going to be around for several days and my appearances will be spotty at best for several weeks afterwards.  Do not count on me to be on the ball with group moderator stuff - I'll be lucky to remember my name and which side of the road I'm supposed to be driving on at any given moment.

There are a few other moderators in the group (hopefully they remember who they are) and at least 2 are participating in the read.  I ask them to please keep an eye on things if I'm MIA and to take whatever actions they deem necessary to the smooth running of the group and the read.

Huggins will be traveling over-sea, but is looking forward to the vacation.
